Visit Thumper's page form more walking fun.

Last Friday night, Thumper and I participated in our very first protest march. I did the marching; Thumper did the slogan chanting. We were out to voice our anger over the newly approved ban on same-sex marriage in California (I'm working on a separate post about that) and to have dim sum. When we arrived there were just a few dozen people. I was a bit worried. By the time it was dark, however, there were thousands and thousands of us. The crowd ranged from drag nuns to strait families (one dad was having a hard time explaining to his two small kids why walking in the street was OK just this once). It can be hard to be a humanist in a humanity drought, but the swelling crowds and sidewalk support help restore my some of my faith in my neighbors.
It's very hard for me to be proud of California.
When Thumper crawls over and very deliberately crawls up in my lap, settling in to smile out at the world, I am made into a source of love and strength and comfort. I may feel no strength of my own. He know no other lap. But we can create so much from nothing.
Did you feel the earth shake on October 30th? It was the first footfalls of one epically cute little boy. Four steps from coffee table to cookie, and now our life will change.Having no cameras on hand, the only recorded evidence of Thumper's first steps are seismographic. So, you'll have to be satisfied with this reclining Buddha. There are more pics over in Thumper's Corner.
